Shalamar Medical and Dental College

The name Shalamar came from the Shalamar Garden built by the Grand Emperor, Shah Jahan. This garden adds to the beauty to the city for the citizens of Lahore. The Shalamar medical college has gained synonymity producing a sense of duty and lifelong learning in its graduates, this making the college one of the best institutes of Pakistan.

Shalamar is a group which comprises its own Hospital, Nursing College, Medical and Dental College and School of Allied Health Sciences. The medical college aims to focus on the integration of educating its students. It incorporates the medical ethics in its students. The college was being established in the year 2009. There is a famous Garden called Shalimar and was being named after it.

Co-curricular activities are an integral part of the College. Every year, annual spots are being held to enhance student’s capabilities in sports. Teams are selected and the players are being elected by the relative coaches. The medical college appreciates students taking an active part in these activities. Overview of Shalamar Medical College

The SMDC college is present with all the equipment. There are well-established departments, a beautiful auditorium, and a grand library. The concept about the Shalamar college was being made in the year 2007. The first class of medical students was inducted in 2009. Shalamar Institute of Health Sciences consists of Shalamar Medical and Dental College, Shalamar Nursing College, Shalamar School of Allied Health Sciences and Shalamar Hospital.

The academic training in the Shalamar college has been constantly evolving and is undergoing progress. The curriculum of the college is quite up-to-date. There are small group discussions, problem-based learning being taught by the highly qualified faculty members.

There is a course, Behavioral Sciences and Medical Ethics. This subject is taught to every student to make them aware about the importance of ethics in their profession. There is a board of trustees in which are included 7 members. These personalities aided in building up the college and the hospital to high values. Shalamar Medical And Dental College also known as SMDC, comes under the project of Shalamar Institute of health Sciences. In a very short time, the college has garnered reputation for giving quality education to its student. There are some more interesting facts that urges a student to join this medical college. Like for example there are museums in the college, a food court, and a gymnasium. Inside the museum are some models about human anatomy, mannequins and specimen. There are the museums of Anatomy, Pathology, Forensic Medicine and toxicology.

The auditorium of the college can adjust around 500+ people. It takes the name after the founding members of the Businessmen Trust Hospital. It has been equipped with modern facilities of audiovisual conferencing facilities. During the extra-curricular activities, the auditorium is the main-stay of most of the students.

The lecture halls of the Shalamar Medical and Dental College are well-developed. A single lecture hall can accommodate almost 150 students a time. All the rooms have air-conditioners. These halls provide flawless acoustics and are thus suitable for both learning and teaching purposes. The library of the college is quite worth it. It has a great number of books providing every supporting detail to both the students and faculty. Not only books, but there are also CD’s and DVD’s as well. The library opens at 8 in the morning and closes at 11 in the evening.

Then comes the gymnasium. It has all the exercising equipment. SMDC believes in the welfare of its students. It believes in their good health. That’s why created this gymnasium. The timings are separate for both the male and female students.

Convocation

4th Convocation Ceremony of SMDC College was being held recently. The Shalamar Medical & Dental College held its 4th annual convocation on the 1st of December 2018 for the academic session of 2013-2018 in which 96 students graduated. The convocation occurred at the college premises and attended by nearly 600 graduating students, esteemed guests, faculty and parents. The convocation is the culmination of the five-year journey of a medical student in achieving their lifetime dream of becoming a doctor.

The MBBS degree from Shalamar Medical and Dental College opens a world of opportunities for an individual to pursue a career in the medical field locally and internationally. The impressive ceremony was in keeping with the traditions of excellence reflective in every aspect of the event. The ceremony begins with the recitation of the holy Quran and the national anthem then by the ceremonial procession which included the chief guest, principal, faculty and students.

Shalamar Hospital

The history of Shalamar hospital starts with the name, Businessmen Trust Hospital. This hospital came into introduction by Chaudhary Nazar Muhammad who set out the hospital in 1978. He dreamed to provide public quality healthcare. Later on, the hospital was given the name Shalamar Hospital.

It is tertiary care hospital. Consists of around 500 beds. Back in the 20th century, it was meant for serving the humanity as a charity property. Later on, the policy was changed. The Shalamar Hospital is considered to be one of the busiest and also one of the oldest hospitals in Lahore. It is locates in the north of Lahore city. Almost 400,000 patients are being treated every year in this hospital.

The hospital offers diagnostic and therapeutic services in General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Nephrology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Dermatology, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Urology, Orthopedics, Burns & Plastic Surgery, Anesthesia, Cardiology & Cardiovascular Surgery, Pathology and Radiology.

Shalamar Hospital is also a hospital used for teaching purposes and is being attached with the Shalamar Institute of Health Sciences. It provides training to undergraduate students in medicine, allied health, and nursing. Additionally, Shalamar Hospital is training more than 100 post-graduate residents in Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Anesthesia, Dermatology, and Ophthalmology fields. It has gain recognition by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council for House jobs since 1984 and by the College of Physician & Surgeon for MCPS and FCPS training.

The college also offers a diploma in Healthcare Ethics and Professionalism. This diploma is a must to make students aware of how to deal with the patients with empathy and humbleness. It may take 4-5 weeks.

1. F. Sc. or equivalent 50% 2. Provincial Entry Test/SAT-II/MCAT 50%

  • While In the fourth year the student must pay 1,624,407
  • In the fifth year the student has to pay   1,738,116

So the total fee for MBBS will be: Rs. 7,707,030
