Everyone wants to live a healthy and long life. Men’s health is a big subject in today’s date because men are most prone to diseases and tend to live a shorter life compared to women due to many diseases. There are many common illiness that affects men’s health.

However, life expectancy has increased since the last 50 years for men but, men are also the ones who are more affected by disease moreover life-threatening diseases. Some may be common ailments.

Mostly men who are unhealthy and do not regularly exercise and also do not eat healthily are affected by many diseases such as stroke, stress problems, hormonal issues, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, heart disease, cancer, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD, etc or any other common illnesses.

“What is a communicable disease?” you may ask. A communicable disease is a disease that spreads from one person to another like the COVID-19, Influenza, Ebola, Hepatitis, etc. Although some of these have rather quick ailments, there are others that take a major toll on the human body.

There are many diseases that affect men and are minor ailments however, there are diseases that KILL men. In this topic, we will be further discussing Common illnesses that kill men, their definition, symptoms, and their cause of happening. So, let us begin:

Heart disease

The number one killer for men is heart disease. The heart, unlike any muscle, requires blood to supply oxygen and nutrients for it to function properly.

If the arteries become narrow due to the fat cells building up and blocking the blood supply or slows down blood supply to the heart, it causes chest pain or otherwise known as Angina. Major ailments.

Angina symptoms are:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Sweating
  • Indigestion

This heart pain sometimes may be an indication of a heart attack. The major factor that plays a role in this

are – smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and a family history of heart disease.

 Cancer

Cancer is a modern-day celebrity. One of many common illnesses. Almost every 2-3 men have cancer and most are diagnosed with lung cancer. Most men smoke and smoking is the cause for 90% of all lung cancers although smokers are decreasing, there are still a majority of men who smoke on a regular basis and they are mostly around the age of 18-24 years old.

There are many types of cancer which occur among men –

  • Lung cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Colonoscopy colon cancer
  • Testicular cancer

These are the diseases that mostly occur in men due to smoking and also secondary smoking but some happen because of drugs and hormones. So quit smoking that should be your first step.

Injuries

Accidents can happen at any time and can lead to death or permanent scars or paralyze a person.

Basic things like wearing a seat belt when you are driving, helmet while cycling, not consuming drugs or alcohol while driving. One of many common illnesses related to driving is when you are driving when high on drugs or driving when you are under the influence of alcohol. It is not only dangerous for you but also for the people who are on the streets and all around you. Because it may cause you to harm yourself and it can also cause harm o someone else moreover it may cause death to the person driving the car and to the people on the streets. 

So avoid these at all cost cause a life once gone can never be back.

Stroke (cerebrovascular accident, CVA)

When blood flow is disrupted due to any reason to the brain, a stroke occurs. Strokes are another one of the major common illnesses. In a human body, blood flow is very important cause blood is the carrier of oxygen and other nutrients needed for the human body to function properly. A Stroke can happen for many reasons for example – blood vessel narrowing, debris breaking from the carotid artery, and blood clot. 

The factors of stroke are almost exactly the same as heart disease.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD is of two types – emphysema and chronic bronchitis and both are caused by smoking.

The symptoms of COPD are breathing problems and wheezing which are caused by smoking.

Diabetes –another one of many common illnesses

Diabetes is an unusual insulin function in the human body. Diabetes is two types  – type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

95% of people have type 2 diabetes. Uncontrolled diabetes raises the sugar level in the blood which leads to multi-organ failure which ends in sometimes in a heart attack

Influenza and pneumonia

A healthy body has a strong immune system that can fight against the influenza virus or otherwise known as flu. Influenza is known as a communicable disease(we have covered what this means above so incase you missed it you may want to go up and read that part again). A healthier lifestyle should be adopted to build a strong immune system to remedy against flu. Sometimes pneumonia in men causes death. But the pneumococcal vaccine has proven effective against pneumonia. 

Suicide

Men who are suffering from depression tend to lean towards suicide sometimes. If you are suffering from one of the following common illnesses of depression, we recommend calling the suicide helpline of your respective country.

Signs of depression

  • Lack of energy
  • Difficulty concentrating 
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Felling worthless

Kidney Disease

Impurities in the blood are filtered by the kidneys and exited from the body through excretion(urine etc.). Kidney balances the electrolyte in the blood. Kidney failure mostly occurs due to high blood pressure and diabetes,

Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease is explained as a loss of cognition and intellectual ability for example – memory, problem-solving, etc. This disease has no cure so far and the causes of this disease are also unknown.

 Alzheimer’s disease may not always lead to death but it makes a person difficult to identify and treat any problems which sometimes unintentionally leads to death.

More than 5 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer’s.

Remedies For A Healthier Life 

Leading a healthier lifestyle is the key importance in life however not every person can commit to such a big thing moreover it’s a lifelong process of healthy eating, maintaining a diet, quitting bad habits, and exercising on a regular basis.

Whenever life throws you down, you should get up, and fight back no matter what common illnesses fall before you must keep your head up and keep going.

Failure can happen at any time in life, but that does not mean you have to quit trying. So trying to live a healthier lifestyle is tough and you will fail sometimes but that does not mean that you should stop doing what you are doing. There are many ways to stay fit and be healthy, we should follow these examples to lower major ailments and make them into smaller ones.

Here are some examples to reduce ailments-

  • Stop smoking
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Eat healthily
  • Do some physical exercise every day
  • Get a routine physical examination
  • Control blood pressure, cholesterol
  • Get a screening for prostate and colon cancer
  • Do some home testicle exams 
  • Be mentally active
  • Maintain a healthy relationship with friends, family, and your loved ones
  • Seek help for depression ( If you have symptoms of depression )
  • avoid even common illnesses
